THE NOTES ON BLINDNESS TEAM CELEBRATE WORLD SIGHT DAY 2016 WITH THE RELEASE OF ALL-NEW MATERIAL

Oct 13 2016

We're delighted to celebrate World Sight Day 2016 by announcing the release of a suite of brand new materials:

- RADIO H., a new short film inspired by the feature film Notes on Blindness, in which Imogen, John’s eldest daughter, looks back on her life growing up with a blind father. Whilst Notes on Blindness focuses predominantly on Academic John Hull’s personal experience of blindness, Radio H. shines a light on the effect his condition had on his wider family – and specifically his eldest daughter, Imogen.

Using Imogen’s own childhood recordings alongside her father’s, Radio H. provides a powerful and moving counterpoint to the feature film, and constitutes the closing chapter in Peter Middleton and James Spinney’s acclaimed series of films on John’s ‘journey into a world beyond sight’.

Radio H. (including an Audio Described version) can be seen at:

You can read more about Imogen’s story in The Guardian:

- A new Audio Described soundtrack for the feature film, voiced by Stephen Mangan, and released to coincide with the film’s UK DVD release on 24th October.

- The Android and iOS versions of the acclaimed virtual reality experience Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness, bringing the project to mobile and Google Cardboard users.bThe VR experience – which, like the film is based on John Hull’s original diary recordings – is a six-part interactive non-fiction project, which uses new forms of storytelling, gameplay mechanics and virtual reality to explore John’s cognitive, sensory and emotional experience of blindness.

The free Android app is available to download: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Arte.NoB

The free iOS app is available to download:

The free Samsung Gear VR app is still available to download in the Oculus store for all users: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/gear-vr/1015802351839289/

The release of these materials is the next stage in our ambitious social impact campaign, the mission being to make Notes on Blindness the most accessible film released to date, and to help further the conversation around accessibility for blind and visually impaired audiences.
