DIRECTOR OLIVER WÜRFFELL’S NEW FILM LANDS ON NOWNESS
"I’ve always been attracted to stories that offer extreme contrasts - and Ashley’s story is certainly one of those.”
Würffell offers a glimpse into the qualities needed to excel at this fast-paced sport, traditionally played in Ireland in an alley or court. “Gaelic handball is like no other sport,” says the New York-based filmmaker. “Raw beauty and brutality play out in unison in this film, in a concrete bunker on the wild Irish Coast.”
“To find such dedication and focus within such a hostile setting was really quite compelling,” he continues. “In a space that looks so barren and unsympathetic at first glance, we find the epitome of the sporting human spirit thriving, enduring, and ultimately winning.”
